New unbuntu desktop base image. Based on the normal ubuntu karmic version not the netbook remix.

You need a 4GB stick. Image is only on the first 3.8GB of data so don't worry about errors towards the end (you may get these if our usb stick size differs slightly). The remaining space may be best utilised as swap space at some stage.

**NEW** External audio crackle fix :- http://www.joggler.info/forum/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=356&start=750#p5538

Current Version V1.3 - released 5/5/2010 NOTE: V1.3 downgrades a few features if you are happy with v1.2 stick with it and skip v1.3

Pre 1.4 changelog http://www.joggler.info/forum/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=356&p=5650#p5650

[b]Features:-

Major
Based on a 2.6.31.20 kernel with compiled IEGD drivers. Google Chrome / VLC / Midori /DJMount UPNP / Custom compiled screen calibration utility, Screen brightness utility.

Minor
Keyboard (onboard) auto loads on boot - clickable icon on top navigation (near clock). minimises to bottom right when not in use (click the square icon to get it back)
Clock screensaver
Hideable top menu bar (click little button left or right) gets some valuable screen back

Verified mods and installs

>Partially convert to netbook remix skin Click Here

>Equalizer Install (not needed for 1.2+) Click Here

Tips

Always "shutdown" the OS as you wont get boot up file system errors
Try not to reboot - prefer a full shutdown/plug out - hardware occasionally doesnt like reloads
If your using multiple units with an ethernet cable (doesn't bother wifi) then you will need to change the mac address for each unit to be unique in /etc/network/interfaces

Installation - see the thread for more information
Code:
dd if=image_v1-1.bin of=<your_own_device> bs=10M

If anyone gets really stuck writing the image PM me - post me your usb stick and I'll put the current image on it for you. You can just pay me for postage.

Some beta instructions/install commands I wrote (you can't use the install.sh files from that came with the IEGD source as its for fedora - ubuntu is unsupported). http://www.fuzzylogic.co.uk/instructions.zip

You may be able to use "diskpart" built into windows...

Really though id probably use a linux live cd (i.e one you dont have to install) something like that. Better to use the proper tools.

kavernchan - try a reboot. I removed my mac address from the udev rules but they should be re-created after first load.

What happens for you with XBMC - loaded fine for me - just needs a mouse for now as the evtouch device map isnt done yet.

Edit: just copying the image back onto my usb stick now then I can check the lan is ok - was working on an XFCE4 based image.

kavernchan: just checked - wired lan working fine here. Gets an IP via DHCP etc.
XBMC loads fine - bit of corruption on the theme - usable via keyboard or mouse only at mo.

I'll try and work on the wifi if I get chance today.

Great work!

Concerning:
Fully working sound - no clicks - auto switching on headphone insert
Newly compiled intel IEGD drivers (for 2.6.31.20) for kernel with openGL acceleration in X11

Was a complete sound fix solved by doing all of the following?
Kernel: 2.6.31.20 IEGD Patch
Patch: /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
Patch: /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
Patch: <boot drive>/etc/grub/grub.cfg

the kernel patch fixed the sound instantly. I removed the intel sound options line (last one) in alsa-base.conf as I had messed with it too much and didnt store the origional :)

Grub.conf change left over from previous attempts - may not now be needed.

I had to recompile IEGD as couldnt find any existing drivers.

Dave77: should be - when he makes his new image I'll check it out.

I highly recommend the "onboard" keyboard in the style I have implemented it. It is MUCH MUCH better than cellwriter in my opinion.
